I would like to preface this blog by saying, I am not a patriot. I do not love the United States of America. Love of king and country makes people blind to the problems of the land they live in. Like a man so in love with his wife he never notices she’s more than a little nuts, “patriots” will follow their country over any and all cliffs because they simply cannot see past the stars in their eyes.
Now, that having been said, I do love the concepts that this nation was built upon. For all of our pitfalls, there is still no other nation on the planet that has managed to be as successful while still living in freedom and opportunity. Nowhere else on Earth can a man go from having nothing to having everything if he simply applies himself and works hard. But freedom is a double edged sword.
So this blog will be my forum, my megaphone on the street corner. For you lucky viewers, I will rant and rave and complain about everything that I think is wrong with this country, the world, and the root of it all, the people in it. But with every complaint there is hope, because like our forefathers centuries ago, we can still make a change for the better. Remember though, not to believe everything you read…
Quote of the week:
"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar."
